This is our first task – to attempt to write our own scene and develop a shot list based on our imagination of how the scene will play out.

Being an avid "crime reader" myself, I came up with a story revolving around a psychopathic killer known as "The Flower Killer" and the unveiling of her crime. Apart from writing the scene, I also had to come up with a backstory behind it, therefore a lot of researching was "conducted" to build up the characters, explain the crime and develop the scene. The scene i decided to develop is the scene where the flower killer's fiancé - who is a policewoman, discovers the truth to the crime.

I first came up with the idea when the teacher taught us about cinema shots. I found the Dolly Zoom shot very intriguing so when we were assigned to write a scene i immediately thought about creating a realization shot with the Dolly Zoom. The process of writing the scene was interesting but also challenging us to think outside of the box. Besides, we also had to visualize the scene in our head to develop a shot list. I created a draft shot list first in my word file which has dialogues and then moved to studio binder to finalize a shot list with just descriptions of how i want it to be filmed.

Making a shot list was more difficult and elaborative than what i anticipated since with each parts and dialogue of the scene, there requires not just one but multiple shots in different angles and sizes. Therefore the shot list takes a lot of time and efforts to be done. Some changes to the draft was done because I want to shorten the shot list as much as possible but also make the scene more logical. Thus, I added more shots showing character Daisy watering and fidgeting plants for interaction and removed the shots where the character Kate is reminiscing. My shot list has a total of 14 shots and I can say i'm satisfied with the product i made!
